During History week each of us had a look around at home for items that were old. We found lots of interesting things. Toys we played with when we were young, clothes we wore as babies, old photographs and coins. We decided to invite our parents to visit the museum and have a look at all the things we found. We were telling all the visitors about the artefacts in our museum. Take a look at some of the pictures.
We had History week during January. We were learning about St. Brigid. We listened to the stories about building her Convent and using rushes to make crosses so she could tell people about God. We found out that there is St. Brigid’s Well in Clondalkin. Lots of people go there to pray. We wrote about St. Brigid and drew pictures of her cloak and crosses. Our teacher brought rushes in and made a St. Brigid’s cross. It was very tricky.
Everyone in the school is getting fitter and healthier. We have been doing extra exercise in class and on the yard. We have been trying the Zumba Kids and are getting better every day. They are lots of fun.
Santa wrote us a letter telling us he had received our letters and was looking forward to visiting us on Christmas eve. He left us some clues that we had to follow. We went all around the school to find them. This lead us to a hiding place in our classroom where Santa had left a present for us. It was very exciting. On the last few days before the holidays we wore green and red and lots of us had Christmas jumpers. Take a look at some of the pictures.
It is nearly Christmas and not long before Santa will be visiting Clondalkin. We decided to write a letter to Santa for Christmas. We did our best writing so Santa could see how hard we are working.
We then put all the letters into a big envelope and walked to the post box where we popped our letter in. On our way back to the school, we met the man who will be making sure it it delivered to Santa – The Postman. He told us he would take good care of our letters. I’m sure Santa will get them on time.
We have been very buy learning about shapes in maths. We had a lot of fun with them.
We had a shape hunt in the hall. We were put into different colour teams. Our teacher gave us some clues and we had to find that shape in the correct colour and bring it back to our team. When we had all of the shapes collected we used them to make a picture.
We also used created pictures using shapes. First we had to draw the shapes on coloured paper. Then we cut them out. We stuck the shapes on black paper to make our pictures. We did a super job.
We were busy with shape during our morning activities. We were using tangrams to make different pictures. It was tricky at first but by the end we were making our own.
We have had a busy November. We were learning all about clothes. We had a clothes shop set up in the classroom. We all got turns to work in it or be the customers.
We read the story ‘The Smartest Giant in town’ by Julia Donaldson & Axel Scheffler. Take a look at it here.
We really enjoyed the story. George was very kind to all the animals.
We made our very own giant using old material. We had the to work in groups to make the different items of clothing; trousers, shoes, shirt, tie and belt. When we put it all together he looked great.
We were also busy being fashion designers, We had to design an outfit for a boy or a girl. We did a fantastic job. Take a look at some of the fabulous clothes.
We also read the story ‘The Elves & the Shoemaker’ We then became elves ourselves and decorated old shoes.
